Host family!

I officially have a host family in New Zealand!!!! I just found out yesterday that I will be staying with a couple named Fiona and Sam. They are in their early 30s, and, conveniently enough, they live about 15 minutes from Hutt Valley High School. I will be taking the bus to school every day - I'm sure I'll figure out the transportation system once I get to NZ. So yeah, I've been talking to them a bit through e-mail, and I'm really excited to meet them! They sound great. Fiona sings in a church choir (she's even an alto like me!), and she's invited me to sing with them while I'm there. YAY! I can't wait for that - I was wondering how the choir withdrawal thing would affect me, it being my first time away from Greystone Singers in 4 years, after all. This way I'll be able to keep my chops up for my return to Greystones in T2!

Oh yeah, just read some more... Tawa is about an hour away by car. Sweet as :) They look much closer on Google Earth but there is a mountain range in the way!

Dang mountains, they can be so inconsiderate sometimes! ;-) Oh, and for public transport, try www.metlink.co.nz. Its Journey Planner's helped me out tons since I've been here.

Hi Lauren. I am Fiona's older sister Carol. She has been telling me all about your impending arrival and is very excited to meet you. She seems to think you are her long lost twin!! I live in the South Island with my husband Murray and 1 year old daughter Megan (she features on Fish's blog at various times). If you feel like a trip south during your stay you are most welcome to stop with us. Best wishes and no doubt Fiona will keep me up to date with your adventures at the Hall house!

Hi Carol, nice to hear from you! Thanks for the offer re: a trip to the south island. I definitely do plan to travel NZ as much as I can while I'm there! I am very excited to meet Fiona and Sam - Fiona and I have decided that, yes, we are in fact long lost twins. We have our noses pierced on the same side, we both like karaoke, we both sing alto in choir (and have both sung Bruckner's "Locus Iste," and I'm sure we'll discover more songs in common once we get talking about choir), etc. It will be a great 4 months! I'm looking forward to meeting you, Murray, and Megan as well if the opportunity arises. :o) Take care!
